Please note: The difference in fees between a Clinical Psychologist and Psychologist does not indicate a difference in the quality of the service you will be receiving. Rather, this fee difference is set up to minimise the gap paid for individuals when using Medicare, which provides different benefits for psychologists and clinical psychologists. Please note: Medicare does not provide Medicare rebates for a Counsellor.

* During diagnostic assessment for some individuals an additional hour of information gathering may be necessary. Sometimes a school or kindergarten observation may be necessary. Your clinician will advise you whether this is the case by the end of the session.

# Educational assessments are undertaken by our Educational & Developmental Psychologists using the gold standard cross battery assessment (CHC) protocol, which examines an individual’s cognitive and academic abilities in a thorough and highly individualised way.

Third Party providers: Please note that all services provided for a third party attract GST (if not therapy-based).

Cancellation Policy

This is important to know because it will keep your costs down. If you are unable to attend your appointment, please contact Reception when you receive our 3-day prior appointment reminder. Clients who fail to attend their appointment or cancel within 1 business day of their appointment (or 5 business days for a diagnostic assessment), will be charged the full appointment fee. Clients who cancel within 1 - 2 business days of their appointment will be charged 50% of the fee. It is important that cancellations are notified during our staffed hours (Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm), as this gives Reception the opportunity to find a time to reschedule your appointment and offer your cancellation to another client on our waiting list.

OTHER IMPORTANT CLINIC POLICIES:

* Clinicians have prepared to deliver a quality of service within 50 minutes. If you are 20+ mins late to your appointment this session will be deemed a cancellation as the intended service can no longer be provided in the remaining time.

*Regular cancellations: If you have 3 or more cancellations within a 3 month period (without a medical certificate) then your clinician will be in touch to discuss phasing down or terminating the frequency of your appointment schedule.

*Outstanding invoices: Please know that we require all accounts to be settled before subsequent appointments will be confirmed.

Rebates

Medicare rebates through the Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) or Better Access initiative*

If you are eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) you will be entitled to a rebate of $141.84 for a Clinical Psychologist or  $96.65 for a Psychologist.  If you are eligible for the Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDMP) you will be entitled to a rebate of $58.00. Rebates are available for all ages.

You can obtain this plan from your GP or paediatrician (or a letter of referral from a psychiatrist or paediatrician will suffice).

A MHCP allows you to claim a partial rebate on up to 10 visits in a calendar year. These sessions can be face-to-face or Telehealth. We will need to have a referral from your GP or paediatrician/psychiatrist to process this.   After your 6th session your psychologist at Unique U will write a letter to your referrer updating them of your progress and recommending the further 4 sessions. Your referrer may then provide a MHCP Review plan for the remaining 4 sessions for the year.

MEDICARE REBATES FOR GROUP: range from $34.60-$62.00 per session, depending on the length of the group (60 mins, 90 mins, or 120 mins).

Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorders (CND) funding

CND funding (has replaced the Helping Children With Autism funding) and is for children and young adults under 25 years of age with a diagnosis of Autism.  The CND plan can be obtained through a paediatrician, psychiatrist, or GP. Your doctor will write up a treatment plan and will recommend how this plan is used.

CND funding can be used for assessment and/or therapy

For diagnostic assessment of Autism:  A rebate per session can be obtained for up to 8 sessions of an autism assessment. Clients at the clinic will be required to pay for their assessment upfront first, and will be only able to claim  rebates if a diagnosis of autism is confirmed. After the assessment the psychologist will send their report and clinical opinion back to the doctor, who will then advise of the diagnosis and develop a treatment plan. Reception will then be able to re-issue an invoice to claim using the CND funding.

Please note:

*Out of the 8 possible sessions your doctor can only refer for 4 sessions at a time so if the autism assessment takes over 4 sessions (e.g 4 assessment sessions (parent interview + cognitive assessment + behavioural assessment + feedback session ) you will need to return to the doctor after the 4 sessions to obtain a review to be able to then claim the report out of the last remaining sessions).

**Medicare will only allow CND rebates if a diagnosis of Autism is confirmed by the medical practitioner.

For therapy:  you can claim a rebate for up to 20 sessions of therapy (these 20 total sessions to be shared between psychology, occupational therapy, and speech therapy).

Currently the Medicare rebate for CND funding is $98.95 per session. However, if you have reached your Medicare Safety Net you may be entitled to a greater rebate per session. To clarify how much you may be entitled to receive we suggest you contact Medicare to discuss your individual circumstances.

Contact Medicare Help Line for more information (telephone number: 132 011).
